Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny, little town that is a bit sleepy. Many people unfamiliar with the word often think that it's a separate island somewhere west of Montreal However, in reality it's a part of the city that's west. West Island is home to everything from Lachine west to the City of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on the West Island. But this is not true. Brugel grew on Courtice just outside Oshawa located in Ontario. In her early years, she wanted to be a performer but an unexpected expansion of her body made it impossible. According to an article by Toronto Star, she revealed that she wore heels and was 6 feet 1 inches tall. When I grew out of male companions at that point, I gave up. Many ex-dancers switch to acting. In Brugel's case, it was the encouragement of her drama teacher at her high school which pushed her in the direction she needed. A teacher suggested that she take part in an audition for the annual school production. She was the teacher who suggested that she take on a part in the school's annual show. The show led her to receive the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a BA in Fine Arts at York University. Through the years since, Brugel has landed roles in more than 60 productions across small and big screens drawing the most media attention after she was offered the role in the role of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the only Canadian part of the cast for Season 1 of the series, and only appeared on occasion.
